About Me

I am an artist in my heart, soul and in every cell of my body. I have a passion for making things surrounding me more beautiful than when I first encountered them. I love finding the beauty in a battered object and loving it just the way it is, or partly restoring it. The beauty of these pieces lies in the imperfection, in the story it reflects... This faded look is often reflected in my work: my paintings, as well as my clothing designs. I love finding inspiration in the past. My favourite painters include John Singer Sargent and Cecilia Beaux. I like to refer to my clothing designs as "fabric art", since the focus is often on detail. It's not fashion, but wearable garments of timeless elegance, enhanced by detailed hand finishing. Each design is a one off. My style is instantly recognizable, but no design is ever repeated. Salon "Creations en Brabant Wallon" 2008

I showed a small collection at the Chateau d'Helecine (Belgium) in October 2008. The collection was about wearability, versatility (each piece in the collection can be interchanged with other garments in the collection, or worn with pieces in an existing wardrobe) and craftmanship. I like using "off" colours, with an odd chromatic focus just to add a bit of interest, as can be seen in the combination of a warm fuschia pink and Venetian red. Most of the pieces featured embroidery to add texture. Some of the embroidery was combined with hand painting. The silhoette of each model remained understated, allowing the eye to be drawn to the added surface deatail. My inspiration was mainly the vintage fashions of the twenties and thirties, with a nod to the creations of Poiret and the costumes of the Ballet Russe.
